BuddyPress 1.7 Release Candidate 1 For Your Testing Pleasure

28 March 2013 by Remkus de Vries Leave a Comment

The fine folks working on BuddyPress just released the first RC for BuddyPress 1.7:

BuddyPress 1.7 is going to be one of our most exciting releases to date. It comes packaged with the same theme compatibility that was introduced in bbPress 2.0, which means that BuddyPress will now work out-of-the-box with a majority of the WordPress themes available today.

Make sure you test this release candidate as much as you can because as you know, the 1.7 version is quite an upgrade. For more information, do check out the release post.

BuddyPress 1.7 Comes With Shiny New Features

11 February 2013 by Remkus de Vries 7 Comments

Over WPMU.org Sarah Gooding blogs about a few nice features that the forthcoming 1.7 version of BuddyPress will bring to the table. If you’re a BuddyPress fiend than do check out her article. Only thing I wished she’d worded differently is the mention of the Group Forums disappearing because they’re not.

BuddyPress itself will stop shipping the old stand-alone version of bbPress (which powered the old forums), but instead BuddyPress 1.7 relies on the bbPress plugin entirely for the forums. So they’re not going anywhere, you just need to switch to bbPress for the most awesomest forum experience. [Read more…] about BuddyPress 1.7 Comes With Shiny New Features

BuddyCamp Vancouver Report

21 November 2012 by Bowe Frankema 10 Comments

After landing on the moon, the creation of the internet, and The Matrix hitting theaters, BuddyCamp Vancouver is pretty much mankind’s greatest achievement. In less then four years BuddyPress has evolved to the point where it can be at the center of two full days of awesomeness. 18 speakers, three BuddyPress core developers, the co-founder of WordPress, and a whole bunch of others where there to witness the magic.

Before you continue reading, please take a few seconds to thank the people that have made this possible. Y’all know who they are! [Read more…] about BuddyCamp Vancouver Report

Courseware taking the next step

3 October 2012 by Remkus de Vries Leave a Comment

Courseware, a Learning Management System for BuddyPress is making a switch to SAAS. It’s also a pretty influential plugin at the core. Tammie asked Stas Sușcov, the developer behind the plugin and the service, if this was going to just be a service and he confirmed it would be both and would be benefitting both as well.

Do check them out if you’re looking for a way to integrate a learning system the easy way. Does this look like something you would use?

Support the Development of Anthologize

20 September 2012 by Siobhan McKeown 1 Comment

BuddyPress core developer, Boone Gorges, has set up an Indiegogo campaign to fund him to spend time working on the Anthologize WordPress plugin. Anthologize lets you turn your WordPress website into an ebook. It was developed via the One Week | One Tool project, a summer institute for humanities scholarships, during which they had to build a tool in just a week.

Anthologize encompasses two loves of my life: the humanities and web technology, so I’d encourage you all to check out Boone’s proposal and support him. He’s only costing his time at $75 per hour, which seems like a bargain for one of the select few of BuddyPress core developers. You can read more about it on Boone’s blog, or go straight to Indiegogo to sponsor him.
