The Art of Editing Your Design
One of the biggest mistakes I see people making in theme design is not editing their work. A large part of being a designer is about training and channeling that inner editing voice. Being a good editor of your work is a strong tool in your design kit. [Read more…] about The Art of Editing Your Design
A chance to contribute ideas on theme compatibility and UI to BuddyPress
BuddyPress has come on in leaps and bounds with each release. Currently the 1.7 release is in planning and shaping up to be amazing. One of the main features is going to be theme compatibility. This is the perfect opportunity to ‘take stock’ of how things are currently done in BuddyPress front end and how perhaps alternatives could be Implemented. All in all, a great moment for non developers to get involved in the project. ∞

It’s Time to Stop Kicking the BuddyPress Puppy
If I had a £ for every time someone complained at BuddyPress or moaned about this or that shortcoming, I’d probably be quite rich and typing this from a desert island. To me, it sometimes feels as if BuddyPress were a poor puppy, tossed out into the world and kicked as an easy target. In the words of Chris Crocker: “Leave BuddyPress alone!”.
In an attempt to redress this imbalance, I am going to roll out a few of the old chestnuts levied at BuddyPress and try to prevent the puppy kicking with some counter points. I will state from the outset that this is not meant as a deep analysis, but rather just my responses to the nay sayers. I might be a member of the BuddyPress-pompom-cheerleading-fan-club-squad and don’t hide it, but keep in mind that BuddyPress pays most of my bills so it kind of deserves my defence, to some degree. That said, I am certainly not blind to where it needs a little nudge to get better.

It’s time to get testing those themes and plugins with the release of the BuddyPress 1.6 Release Candidate 1. There are lots of changes in this version – we will have you covered with a more in-depth look once it’s released. We do recommend testing the release candidate though now as, unless a major bug is found, it’s what you will get in BuddyPress 1.6.
WordPress Meetup in London
In my experience WordPress London always has a strong turn out, and not just from London residents either — I myself travel to the event as much as possible. The format is a talk and pub discussion, which always works well for WordPress meetups. This month’s event was held at Skills Matter, a great venue with rooms all set up for training. They provide drinks and there is free wifi – what more could you need!
